TODAY is the FIRST day of The 2017 NAB Show – and the EXCITEMENT LEVEL is OFF THE SCALE!!! The doors have opened officially – but me and my crews have been here for HOURS already, setting-up and gathering ALL of the NAB news we can!
I can’t tell you how much the NAB Show means to me! I’ve been coming here forever, and it truly seems like a second home to me! So much to do… Stay blogged-in!
It’s a beautiful day here in Las Vegas Nevada and I can’t believe how many people are crowding NAB already! Can you believe our sign??? 🙂 It’s so nice – I wonder how I’ll get THAT home??? LOL
We are streaming LIVE right now from the MET 360 LIVE Studio, in the heart of NABShow! Debra Kaufman is KILLING IT! She’s talking about sound and audio and the S22 theater!
George Lucas says that sound is 50% of the production!
When you think about it, that is so true. Content IS king, and they’re right – with services such as NetFlix and Amazon, delivery is becoming more and more available at the times and places people want to see them!

Ryan on with Andrew Cross, CTO of NewTek. Dr. Cross is known within the industry as “The Father of NDI” – although he is very modest about the industry-imposed recognition. NDI allows the production of shows in a completely new way—using sources from all over the network, not just what’s physically patched into the SDI video router. NewTek NDI is a royalty-free standard anyone can implement to connect video equipment across a network. The production switcher, capture system, media server—any NDI-enabled device on the network—can see and access content from all other devices, allowing more sources than ever before to be used for live production. Technology that’s AMAZING!!!
Tim Felstead, Head of Marketing of Sam. Tim plays a key role in ensuring that the Quantel and Snell product range is positioned and aligned with market requirements. Described as “The fastest live sports production system in the world,” SAM (Snell Advanced Media) is demonstrating the first applications of its brand new next generation control, configuration and monitoring solution, Orbit. Orbit applications include IP routing configuration and control, the Multiviewer MV-800-DT application and configuration tools and the Orbit Map View status reporting application. SAM will be migrating all of its remaining control and monitoring solutions – such as Workbench and Live Runner – into Orbit in the months ahead.

David Mowrey, Watson Media head of product development, tells us how IBM is making video more intelligent. IBM has figured out a way to use their Watson AI platform in many different ways – Watson Discovery can help to rapidly build a cognitive search and content analytics engine. Watson Discovery helps developers quickly ingest data to find hidden patterns and answers, enabling better decisions across teams and Watson Conversation allows engineers to quickly build, test and deploy bots or virtual agents across mobile devices, messaging platforms, or even on a physical robot to create natural conversations between your apps and users. Watson Virtual Agent, Watson Knowledge Studio – too many facets to discuss! The future is here with Watson!
Jaimi talking with Simon Westland, Director of Sales EMEA, about the evolution of audio and video and what Blackmagic Design has to offer its customers. It’s Dielectric’s 75th Anniversary! As you know, they are the fine folks who bring us antennas, RF systems and transmission lines! Dr. Charles “Doc” Brown’s Dielectric Products Corporation started developing transmission lines for early wartime radar systems in 1942. After the war, Doc Brown’s team applied their innovative technology to inventions for the emerging field of television broadcasting, and Dielectric was soon supplying equipment for all three major television networks. Dielectric has long been known for complete high-power systems, from transmitter output to tower top, and has developed long-term relationships with virtually all major broadcasters. Congratulations!!!
Well, that’s it for day one. It’s a wrap! Our film crews, all the interviews, all the products, we had a lot of fun today! But there’s so much more to see… And tomorrow is another day. I want to thank all of the Broadcast Beat staff for their tireless efforts today (especially you, Erica!), and I’d also like to thank ALL of The Show visitors, as well! Now – let’s hit them parties!!! And, until tomorrow, remember to stay blogged-in!
