The Disney ABC Television Group has recently announced that they have taken on social media platform, Snapchat, as a partner. The network giant announced that they will begin to produce original content for Snapchat. The programming begins on January 3 when Snapchat will debut a show called Watch Party: The Bachelor. This is part of the agreement in which ABC will begin to provide both scripted and unscripted shows to Snapchat.
Nick Bell, Vice President of Content for Snap, Inc, said that, “Disney ABC have re-written the rules for how to develop daring fun and adventurous series for TV, mastering formats ranging from scripted to reality and drama to comedy. They will be a vital partner as we continue to expand our lineup of Shows on Discover and we’re expected to kick off 2017 by bringing one of their most beloved brands to Snapchat.”
This particular show will have a ten episode run in which participants in the show are shown watching the ABC show, The Bachelor. The new show will be shown at Snapchat on Tuesday, the day after The Bachelor has aired on the ABC network. The Snapchat content will be listed under the platform’s Discover tab and the content is described by Snapchat as… “a character or format driven single narrative video production.”
John Frelinghuysen, Disney ABC Vice President of Digital Media, Strategy and Business Development said that, “Earlier this year, we worked closely with Snapchat on a very successful The Oscars Live Story and we look forward to building on that relationship and providing Snapchat’s mobile centric users with a unique, immersive experience around our shows and brands.”
