Summary/Objective

The Media and Public Relations Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining the public relations and community relations department for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Double A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. The person should be an outgoing, energetic, and creative professional who is a clear self-starter with strong writing skills and relationship skills.

Essential Functions

  • Fulfill media requests
  • Act as a liaison and providing support to the media covering the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, including managing press credentials
  • Write and distributing periodic press releases, fact sheets and media advisories and conducting press releases
  • Responsible for producing game programs, media guides and other publications
  • Write daily game notes, game summaries and other daily informational material during the season
  • Manage event recaps and stories to be used on team website
  • Maintain player relations, writing player bios and pitching player and team stories
  • Manage news related to player transactions
  • Maintain the Blue Wahoos website, changing it frequently and providing daily statistical updates of text and graphic material during the ball season
  • Manage game operation of the press box
  • Manage staff with daily activities and projects, and train and provide talking points to staff
  • Manage community relations programs
  • Create and assist with promotional ideas and events for current and potential Blue Wahoos community relations strategies and sponsors
  • Keep a comprehensive record of events and media clips that cover Blue Wahoos special events and participate on the Blue Wahoos game staff assisting with community relations activities
  • Attend and contribute to all Blue Wahoos special events
  • Manage team signings, practices and appearances when necessary
  • Manage incoming requests and fulfillment of in-game experiences
  • Manage several team related databases and all social media, including those related to donations, programs, events
  • Manage and edit inner-office e communications and marketing materials
  • Collect and respond to fan mail
  • Receive, process and respond to local charity requests
  • Perform all other duties as requested or assigned by management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize goals
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficient in HTML
  • Technically proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Strong skills in PowerPoint and Photoshop
  • Proficient in InDesign
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently and self-motivate
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Being able to think outside the box
  • Ability to attend company events
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to pull tarp and other manual labor duties
  • High level of integrity
  • Strong negotiating skills

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and at least one year of experience.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours will vary to include evening and weekend work according to business needs.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The key physical requirements of this position includes the ability to walk and stand for an extended period of time, lift up to 30 pounds, and the use of standard office equipment including computers.
