Social Media Manager, Instagram
About the job
Curbed is seeking an Instagram devotee to take our off-platform storytelling to the next level. Under the direction of our engagement editor, you’ll use images, animations, and copy to engage, grow, and diversify our readership, helping make Curbed’s Instagram accounts must-follows for the sharpest home-related content.
The ideal candidate is a creative self-starter who flexes excellent communication and organizational skills. Enthusiasm for—and, ideally, familiarity with—Curbed’s coverage areas are vital to this position. Above all, the right candidate has a desire to grow Curbed’s Instagram presence through beautiful, engaging storytelling, whether that be on Instagram or elsewhere. This is the kind of position that is what you make of it.
As part of the Curbed engagement team, you will:
Post images and videos to and engage with a range of Instagram accounts, simultaneously
Propose creative projects and initiatives—including new accounts—for Instagram and Instagram Stories
Help grow social reach and engagement
Spot social media #content trends and take advantage of new platform capabilities
Monitor Instagram metrics and work with the engagement editor to optimize strategy
Regularly compile analytics for social initiatives
Engage with (talk to!) our readers and community in comments and DMs
Work with Curbed city site editors on Instagram best practices, including story ideas and image embeds
Work with other engagement teams across Vox Media to share best practices and sharpen your skills
Learn from and contribute to a collaborative team
Required skills and experience:
Demonstrated ability to write social-friendly copy
Experience managing social media in content publishing or for a brand; journalism experience is a bonus. (We’re looking for about two years experience, and are open to what this means for you.)
Excellent communication skills and ability to juggle several simultaneous tasks
Enthusiasm for change, and corresponding flexibility with workflow
An eye for design and the ability to make social graphics
Working knowledge of mainstream social platforms in addition to Instagram (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Snapchat, Tumblr)
General understanding of the evolving social media landscape and ongoing desire to stay on top of changes to platforms and best practices
The ability to work well both independently and with others, and handle multiple simultaneous projects with various lead times
Solid grammar and writing skills: You don’t need to be closely edited.

This is a full-time position with benefits based in the New York City Vox Media offices. Salary is commensurate with experience.
