The Video Production Sound Engineer oversees, and is responsible for, all sound aspects of production.
The Video Production Sound Engineer’s job will be to record the best possible sound on-set/location. This role will have a role in pre-production and Post Production work, delivering properly mixed audio to the editor. They will communicate with the Editor, the Producer(s) and Production Manager, and will work side-by-side with the cinematographer while on set. They may participate in location scouting.
The Video Production Sound Engineer will need to have extensive knowledge of all manner of audio equipment and post-processing and mixing tools. Bonus points for Pro Tools. It would be beneficial if the Audio Engineer also knew how to score music.
Primarily involved with the on-set recording of sound for small, medium and large productions.
Assume overall responsibility for the final sound of a project.
Post-production of audio files to be delivered in final for to editors based on their specs for editing final projects.
Works closely with the rest of the creative team (producers, creative director, cinematographer, editor and graphics) to help insure the smooth flow of each post production phase.
Works closely with all members of the video team and the Producers maintaining and caring for the proper equipment, tools and software necessary to successfully do this job.
Proven track record of success as a Video Production Sound Engineer (on set sound person).
Have an intimate and exceptional knowledge of relevant professional sound equipment and software.
Post production working knowledge and experience is a must for this role.
Works well in a collaborative team environment.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in related field, Trade School, Audio training or 3+ years equivalent experience.
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the execution of sound engineering production and post-production workflow and software.
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal skills.
Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
Strong oral and written communications skills. Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
Less than 75% travel
This job operates in a clerical, open office setting for some days, with location travel plus physical production days occurring frequently for this role. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, software, speakers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. However it also uses professional sound equipment during production days, so candidate must be comfortable and familiar with the demands of an on set experience.
