The 2018 #NABShow will have a wide variety of events, educational opportunities, and show floor demonstrations  that always brings in new trends to our ever evolving media industry. As we know, the 2018 #NABShow is a rewarding experience for everyone attending and networking. It gives the convention attendees the opportunity to participate and experience an enormous amount of technology (some you may buy and others that will be put on your wish-list). However, the educational experience is something that everyone can take back with no luggage or baggage claim required.

NAB: We Are Broadcasters Celebration: Highlights during this celebration include the presentation of the TV Chairman’s Award to Kristen Bell, an individual who is blazing trails in the industry and impacting the future of television; the recognition of 10 stations for their tremendous year-round commitment to community service with the Crystal Radio Awards; and the presentation of the Engineering Achievement Award to individuals for their outstanding accomplishments in the broadcast industry.

Mark Aitken continues to be a dynamic leader in the development of Next Gen TV. He joined Sinclair Broadcast Group in 1999 and became VP of advanced technology in 2011. He has been involved in the broadcast industry’s migration to advanced services, including participation in the FCC Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service, involvement in ATSC including chairing the specialist group on mobile DTV, and with the formation of Sinclair’s joint venture ONE Media, serving as its President.

Tom Jones is the president of Carl T. Jones Corporation and has been actively serving the broadcast industry as a consulting engineer for nearly 40 years. Jones joined his father’s engineering firm as a senior engineer in 1979 and became a full partner in 1983, rising to his current role as president in 1985. He has managed hundreds of complex broadcast engineering projects, served on industry and government advisory committees and has been heavily involved in the development of the Method Moments analysis for AM directional arrays and more recently the AM revitalization effort.

Clay Freinwald began his broadcast engineering career in 1961 and has held various technical positions at numerous stations and station groups, including Tacoma News Tribune, Viacom and Entercom. He is a Fellow in the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) and is a founding member of the Broadcast Warning Working Group, helping broadcasters and others understand and implement EAS technology. Freinwald has served as chairman of the Washington State EAS Committee for over 20 years and chaired the SBE EAS Committee for a decade. NAB Achievement in Broadcasting Dinner: This invite-only event features the presentation of the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame Awards for Radio and Television and the Digital Leadership Award.

Hall of Fame: Two of America’s most popular gameshows, “Wheel of Fortune” and “JEOPARDY!,” will be inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

JEOPARDY!, America’s Favorite Quiz Show®, and its host, Alex Trebek, began their 34th season in syndication on September 11, 2017. With 23 million viewers each week, JEOPARDY! is the top-rated quiz show on television, and has won many awards and distinctions over the course of its 30+ years on the air, including the 2017 Emmy for Outstanding Game Show. The show holds a Guinness World Records® record for the most Emmy® Awards won by a TV game show (34 Emmys). Created by Merv Griffin in 1964, JEOPARDY! is a daily half-hour quiz show with a unique answer-and-question format. Johnny Gilbert serves as announcer, and Harry Friedman is executive producer.

Wheel of Fortune: Reaching more than 25 million weekly viewers, “Wheel of Fortune” reaches more viewers than any other program on televsion. Created by Merv Griffin in 1975 as an NBC daytime show, it is based on the game “Hangman”. “Wheel of Fortune” is currently celebrating its 35th season of syndication and is trademarked “America’s Game”. Pat Sajak began hosting “Wheel of Fortune” in 1981 when it aired on network daytime televisionand continued through its syndication in 1983. Since then, he has earned three emmy awards, a People’s Choice Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Vanna White quickly became a household name when she was named co-host of “Wheel of Fortune” in 1982. Since her debut on the show, she has become a Guinness World Record Holder as “Most Frequent Clapper” and has also earned a start on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Both hosts have been with “Wheel of Fortune” through its entire 35 seasons in syndication.

Elvis Duran considers himself the host of the party on his national radio show, which is the most listened to Top 40 morning show in the U.S. that consistently ranks #1 across multiple demographics and top markets. Broadcasting live from New York’s Z100, Duran and his on-air crew entertain listeners with up-to-the-minute entertainment and pop culture news, celebrity guests, hit songs, and regular features such as the gossipy “Entertainment Report,” the news-worthy “Headlines,” and the ever-popular prank “Phone Taps.”

Roger Keating joined Hearst Television in 2008, overseeing the company’s growing digital media unit and leading product development, business development and corporate development. Keating’s portfolio also includes serving as the first chairman of Pearl TV, leadership in the Dyle mobile DTV project, support of the NAB SPROCKIT program and most recently his leadership in the launch of NewsON, the mobile-only app for local news aggregation.
