8th HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2019 Shortlists Fincons Group

The Fincons Group is a leading IT business consultancy. Since 1983, the Fincons Group has focused its efforts on advancing technologies, which have helped build its reputation. This is all thanks to the company’s ability to interpret and anticipate new business models such as the rapid surge of IT-based systems.

Later this month, this year’s HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2019 will have the Fincons Group showcase its latest project, the Smart Digital Platform for media and broadcast businesses. The HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2019 will be taking place on November 21-22, 2019 at the MEGARON Athens International Conference Centre in Athens, Greece. This solution is the first to be entirely compatible with both European HbbTV and new USA ATSC 3.0 standards.

Fincon’s Smart Digital Platform Features

The Smart Digital Platform (SDP) is a flexible and fully customizable modular framework. The platform is specifically made to provide both Hybrid TV and OTT solutions that act as accelerators for new service scenarios. The Smart Digital Platform is built to integrate with the latest standards while being prepared to expand and personalized itself in light of a new form of technological innovation coming into fruition.

The Smart Digital Platform tool stems from Fincons’ pioneering experiences with HbbTV applications. These applications include the well-known Mediaset Play service, as well as ATSC applications. These two standards continue to undergo an evolution that allows them to provide each other with new learnings and inspiration. This evolution has enabled The Fincons Group to leverage its unique role in designing a one of a kind platform that is truly compatible with both standards. This compatibility provides both a unique opportunity for international entertainment businesses and broadcasters. This is essential in a more internationally integrated market environment where new players join forces as well as content in order to leverage their assets and reach broader sections of the market that go beyond the standard national boundaries.

The framework of the Smart Digital Platform helps distribute functionalities in logical “SMART” modules that are intended to serve as the “building blocks” for any Hybrid TV solution. The platform makes it possible to design each page of an application (including navigation), which allows for it to show features such as an Electronic Program Guide (EPG), channel details, video on demand sections, and catch-up content. This is all thanks to the help of a template engine, and through application programming interfaces (APIs), the Smart Digital Platform allows for the synchronization of display and interactive video advertising formats.

What To Expect At The HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2019

The prototype submitted for the HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2019 demonstrates how the Smart Digital Platform can perform a function as innovatively consistent as smart-watching videos. This particular example illustrates how cloud machine-learning services can be used to analyze video assets, where a user can look specifically for celebrity appearances through face recognition techniques. This can allow end-users to skip directly to where celebrities appear, and by using the Smart Digital Platform, they’ll be able to navigate directly to clips that featured their favorite actors. The function of this process would start from configurable templates where the application is automatically generated in either HbbTV2 or Atsc3.0 compliant code. This unique feature serves as a doorway to vastly new possibilities and because of its modular and integrated structure, businesses will be able to realize returns on investment every step of the process.

Deputy CEO Fincons Group and CEO Fincons.US, Francesco Moretti

The Fincons Group will be deploying its Smart Digital Platform with Artificial Intelligence-powered facial recognition at the HbbTV Symposium event. During the event, Deputy CEO Fincons Group and CEO Fincons.US, Francesco Moretti, will take part in a highly topical round table session where Dr. Jörn Krieger will serve as a moderator.  The round table session will be called “Does HbbTV provide the right tools for broadcasters and operators,” and it will be held on November 21st at 17:10.

Head of International Business Development and Innovation, Oliver Botti

Along with Moretteir, Fincons’ Head of International Business Development and Innovation, Oliver Botti, will be moderating a panel on HbbTV and other Interactive Standards. This panel will be held on November 22nd at 12:10 where he will be joining a panel debate, moderated by Mediaset’s Angelo Pettazzi. The focus of the panel will center on “Targeted Advertising: the Business State of the Art,” which will take place on November 21st at 14:40 where the discussion will center on ’Obsessive’ (and successful) HbbTV market trials. This discussion will include Mediaset Play’s two-year continuous “live market trial” on Interactive Content and Advertising, with special reference to the latest release of RT Dynamic Advertising Replacement.

When discussing the standards of HbbTV and ATSC 3.0, Francesco Moretti went on to say “Having worked extensively on both the HbbTV and ATSC 3.0 standards, we’re very proud of the Smart Digital Platform tool, which leads the way with its flexibility and scalability as a solution. I’m pleased to be able to share the tool with experts across the HbbTV community and I am very much looking forward to exchanging ideas with fellow industry leaders at the symposium.”
