LOS ANGELES, CA – The Property Masters Guild (PMG) has announced the honorees for its second MacGuffin Awards, recognizing extraordinary craftsmanship, service and dedication within the property department.
Dennis Parrish will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Studio Art & Technology. Chuck McSorley will be honored with the Humanitarian Award, presented by Hill Valley. Alfonso Ramirez will be the first-ever recipient of the President’s Award, a new honor recognizing exceptional contributions to the property craft by professionals outside the Property Master role.
“The MacGuffin Awards honor the skill and dedication that give stories their texture and truth,” said PMG President Jeffrey Johnson. “This year’s honorees have shaped unforgettable worlds on screen and set the standard for excellence in our craft.”
Theresa Corvino, PMG Awards Committee Chair added, “Our goal is simple: bring the property community together and spotlight the work that moves audiences, even if it’s rarely seen in the spotlight.”
Dennis Parrish, Lifetime Achievement Award
One of the most respected figures in the history of the craft, Parrish began his career in 1953 at Warner Bros. on The Silver Chalice, the start of a five-decade legacy that influenced generations. A second-generation Property Master and part of a rare three-generation lineage, he earned his first Property Master credit in 1964 on The Sand Pebbles, starring Steve McQueen. Over his career, Parrish became known as a master of foreign location work and a mentor to many. His extensive filmography includes Hello, Dolly!, Patton, Papillon, Sunshine Boys, Wind and the Lion, Red Dawn, Rambo II, Total Recall, Backdraft, Casino, Eraser, U-571 and Gangs of New York.
Following his retirement in 2008, Parrish continued teaching at the University of Nebraska’s Johnny Carson School of Film alongside his daughter Hope, herself a Property Master. He remains a longtime member of IATSE Local 44, an honorary member of the Property Masters Guild and serves as Vice President of Programs for the Culver City Historical Society.
Chuck McSorley, Humanitarian Award
McSorley will be honored for his unwavering commitment to community and service, most recently during the Los Angeles wildfires. In response to the devastation, he led a large-scale relief initiative through Zello Support, organizing crews from IATSE Local 44 to deliver furniture and household necessities to more than 1,000 displaced families. His leadership turned Zello into a vital nonprofit fixture in the Los Angeles community, expanding its efforts to support schools and recovery centers. McSorley has also held numerous leadership and mentorship roles, including work with Big Brothers of America, Boy Scouts of America, the Asian Pacific Women’s Center, the FBI Los Angeles Citizens Academy Alumni Association, and currently serves on the Executive Board of IATSE Local 44. His dedication to helping others has made a lasting impact. Professionally, he has contributed to a variety of projects, including Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Batman Forever, Freaks and Geeks, Space Jam: A New Legacy and Captain America: A Brave New World.
Alfonso Ramirez, President’s Award
Born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico, Ramirez moved to Los Angeles as a teenager to pursue a future in the arts. With a background in theater and formal training in production design, he found his calling in the property department. Over the past decade, he has worked on projects such as Rent: Live, 68 Whiskey, The Offer, Horizon: Chapter 2 and Lanterns, collaborating with respected Property Masters including Doug Fox and Jeff Johnson. Ramirez is known for his thoughtful, research-driven approach, his dedication to storytelling and his ability to foster a collaborative environment.
“The President’s Award, created to recognize the unsung heroes who elevate this craft every day,” says PMG President Jeffrey Johnson. “Alfonso is a shining example of what this award stands for: humility, artistry and true commitment to the work.”
This year’s MacGuffin Awards are proudly presented with the valued support of sponsors. The celebration is presented by Party Sponsor Giovanni Eco Chic Beauty, with Diamond-level sponsorship from Dell Technologies and Independent Studio Services. Weta Workshop joins at the Gold level.
