Adder supplies extension technology for Netherlands hospitals

Adder Technology, the high performance KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) specialist, has supplied its IP-based solutions to Mpluz*, an audio visual systems integrator that specialises in medical imaging. The solutions have been deployed in hospitals in the Netherlands — the brand new Medisch Spectrum Twente hospital in Enschede and in new operating rooms of the St. Elisabeth – TweeSteden Hospital in Tilburg.

Mpluz* installed 75 AdderLink X-DVI PRO extender units in the operating room departments and cathlab of the hospitals. The AdderLink X-DVI PRO is a high performance KVM extender that enables users to link a computer, often located in a secure, temperature-controlled environment, to a screen, keyboard and mouse in a different room with no loss of video quality. It can transmit a single link DVI video stream, transparent USB 2.0 and analogue audio over a single CATx cable.

The first part of the installation saw Mpluz* using the AdderLink extenders to link the EPR and PACS-PC display in the operating rooms with the PC system units in the technical area above the rooms. The second involved connecting a Samsung Touch display in the operating room with the operating room cockpit application to the computer in the same technical area.

“One of the main challenges of the installation was that it took place in a environment, where we heave to deal with regulations, hygiene, electronical safety and medical applications like diethermie” says Mark van den Broek, MD Mpluz*. “However, we have extensive experience in this arena and were able to complete the project on time and within the parameters set by the hospitals.

“We have also used Adder’s products in a number of similar installations so we had the utmost confidence that they would meet our customers’ requirements and deliver the quality of performance needed in such a critical environment.”

Mpluz* is based in the Netherlands and develops and implements solutions for the medical industry, including digital operating rooms, video conferencing for oncology, medical workspaces, radiology and hospital wide image management.
