AJA Video Systems has a new firmware release (v1.1) for the new CION™ 4K/UltraHD and 2K/HD production camera. The CION began shipping in January, and the software update increases the Exposure Index and offers improved highlight handling capabilities.
“CION is a breakthrough camera system with many unmatched features at an incredible price point,” says Nick Rashby, president, AJA Video Systems. “This new firmware update reflects our ongoing commitment to developing user-requested new features and improvements for CION.”
With the v1.1 firmware update, which is recommended for all CION users, the Exposure Index values are increased to EI 320, EI 500, EI 800 and EI 1000.
The CION is an ergonomic and lightweight camera with unparalleled connectivity. CION can shoot at 4K/UltraHD and 2K/HD resolutions. The camera records directly to Apple ProRes codecs, including 12-bit ProRes 444. This enables high quality image capture to the cost-effective AJA Pak SSD media at up to 4K/60p. The CION is compatible with a wide range of postproduction applications. CION can output AJA Raw at up to 4K 120fps via 4 x 3G-SDI or up to 4K 30fps via Thunderbolt™.
The v1.1 field-upgradeable firmware update is easily uploaded to the CION using the built-in web UI with a standard web browser.
AJA’s CION features a 4K-sized CMOS sensor with an electronic global shutter and an integrated optical low pass filter/Infrared cut filter. The camera produces stable, color-accurate images without moiré patterning. CION has more simultaneous on-set monitoring outputs than any camera in its class and includes a built-in confidence monitor and LAN browser video tap. Users are offered a combination of 2 x 4K/UltraHD and 3 x 2K/HD or 8 x 2K/HD. They can also check each camera feed in multi-cam setups using an integrated LAN connection, and monitor remaining recording time in tandem.
CION is constructed of lightweight and strong magnesium alloy and has a contoured suede shoulder pad. CION operators can use AJA’s Pak Dock on set, and achieve faster transfer speeds via Thunderbolt™ or USB3 to immediately access files for backup and editing.
