The Department of Music at Florida Atlantic University is inviting applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Music Production and Sound Recording. The appointment will start in August 2017.

The assistant professor will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Commercial Music program, which may include computer music sequencing, sound recording, live sound reinforcement, audio post production, music production, commercial music ensemble and possibly introduction to music business and video game music.

The assistant professor will oversee student research projects and will assist in managing Hoot/Wisdom Recordings LLC, the University’s faculty-supervised and student-run record label, and also assist in the maintenance of the recording studios and music labs. The assistant professor will be expected to conduct research in the areas of music production and/or sound recording.

The Department of Music at Florida Atlantic University is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. Florida Atlantic University is located in South Florida, a major urban area including Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. South Florida is an active creative hub in the music and recording industry.

Minimum Qualification:
Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in music industry studies. Degree must be completed by time of appointment (August 2017). Doctorate in music industry studies is preferred. Three years of experience in the areas of sound recording, live sound reinforcement, and music production required.

Knowledge of Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and music notation software required.

The evaluation should be scanned and electronically attached to the application.

An unofficial transcript may be used during the hiring process to assure that the prospective faculty member may be credentialed for the courses they are expected to teach. An official transcript sent directly from the institution is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Similarly, for degrees from outside the United States, the evaluation by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts) is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of class.
