So I’ll get to Singapore, literally, the day before I left (16 hour time difference, you know), a few days before the 2016 Broadcast Asia Show. The Garden City has a lot to offer the intrepid traveler and I wanted to allow some time to adjust to the jet lag and soak-in some of the local sights before showing-up bright and early at this multi-media event on the 31st.
English is spoken everywhere and signs are in English, as well. With that said, it’ll be off on Singapore’s outstanding public transportation system to see sights, starting at the resort itself, where I will see the ArtScience Museum and the Marina Bay Sands Skypark – a vantage point for taking in the entire city. From the skypark, I’ll be able to see the impressive double helix bridge, the port, the Gardens by the Bay, and the extraordinary Singapore skyline! I want to take-in high tea inside one of the cars on the Singapore Flyer, the world’s largest giant observation wheel… I’d better leave my acrophobia home for THAT one! Chinatown… the Arab Quarter… the Colonial district and, of course, I hope I’ll have enough time to visit the world-renowned Singapore Zoo!
Due to its status as one of the four Asian Tigers, Singapore is an ideal location to host this event. The show itself is taking place at the Marina Bay Sands Resort/Casino/Exhibition-Convention center – this 8 billion dollar resort is a monumental experience by itself. The Broadcast Asia Show pushes the whole Marina Bay Sands experience completely over the top for me; it’s a fabulous place for a fantastic event!
Acebil, Blackmagic, Cine Equipment Pte Ltd., Db Elettronica, Edgeware, Enco Systems Inc, Vizrt, Wellav Technologies Ltd., Xor Media Limited, Yamaha Music, Zycast Technology Inc. etc. etc. etc. hundreds and hundreds of eastern and western media companies – from A to Z – have a presence here, with the beautiful Marina Bay Sands as the backdrop to this event its truly a sight to behold.
There’s a lot to explore in this 4-day event, so let’s begin by breaking the show up into a few categories/highlights:
Introduced in 2015, the TV Everywhere! Zone was such a stunning success that it’s been incorporated permanently into the event. Linear and non-linear broadcasting has taken a giant leap forward, OTT and multi-screen solutions abound here.
Cinematography/Film/Production highlights cutting-edge motion picture production tools and software. Top companies will be exhibiting some prime technologies here, and they are eager to help your studio excel.
Professional Audio technology 2016 expertly ties in the audible portion of the full media experience for industry and its audience. Treat your ears to the full audio spectrum from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz! The Post | Production Hub boasts Twelve different seminars/ speeches occurring every day at the 2016 Broadcast Asia Show from 11:15 through 4:00 over the course of the first three days of this media extravaganza. No talks are repeated, so make sure to schedule carefully! These award winning speakers range from all across the post production spectrum – from Colorists to Directors. Experience their skills, share their insights, see their equipment, learn their techniques!
A quarter-century industry veteran filmmaker Marco Solorio, author and
international speaker, will be there; Christopher Craker, formerly a Senior Vice President of Sony BMG Masterworks who has been nominated for an Oscar and several Grammys, will also be there; as will Dave Whitehead – another quarter-century veteran, who is a sound designer and composer, having worked on such films as The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit Trilogy, Elysium, King Kong and many others. Nine other top-industry veterans round out the roster of speakers.
Another feature of the 2016 Broadcast Asia Show is a series of 7 guided Technology Tours that are occurring between 11 through 3 daily. Each show features a series of several 10-minute private demonstrations from a special set of select exhibitors based on the theme of each tour.
All these tours are free of charge and each participant should show up 15 minutes early. The first Tour is for TV Everywhere on Tuesday from 1:30 to 3:00; Wednesday’s tours are: IP Broadcasting from 11:00 to 1:30, and 4K/UHD from 1:30 to 3:00; Thursday is: Live Production from 11:00 to 1:30, and then a repeat of Tuesdays TV Everywhere tour from 1:30 to 3:00. Friday concludes the tours with a repeat of Wednesday’s IP Broadcasting from 11:00 to 1:30, and then the final tour Digital Asset Management from 1:30 to 3:00. The option of self-guided tours in other technologies is available under special circumstances.
Networking: The Power Networking Reception is open to an organization’s top brass only, but have no fear! Other execs can still partake of some arranged networking opportunities with two other options: the VIP Networking Lounge is available to Upper Level Executives and Special Guests, and finally the Online Business Matching Program is available to anyone.
The credo at the 2016 broadcast Asia Show is “Integrating Technologies, Experiencing Content.” Top Brands and leading Multimedia personalities make this the international event to attend for the broadcast industry.
