Broadcast Solutions GmbH at the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship!

At the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship which took place at the famed Stuttgart’s Porsche Arena in Germany, Broadcast Solutions GmbH provided a quite different perceptive in television coverage. The team incorporated Robycam 3D camera systems heads equipped with Grass Valley LDX C80 compact world-cams with Canon HJ14 optics, to enable the 360° endless pan systems to capture a event that features techniques that have been practiced for over 150years!

So here’s some more insight on the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship and the venue itself. Withstihl-timbersports-world-championship-with-robycam over 100 athletes from 23 different countries this is the professional championship for sport lumberjacks! Yes, and with events such as the Springboard Chop, Standing Block Chop, and Underhand Chop (trust me the list goes on). The need for a full panning camera that provides smooth motion was truly necessary. The Robycam 3D cable camera system mounted at four rigging points which allowed for the systems to fly above the entire interior of the 11,000 visitors at the Porsche Arena! The engineering team at Broadcast Solutions incorporated a fifth winch- which was equipped with fiber cabling that fed two different applications: transmission of the camera controls as well as optics. The HD/SDI output from the camera was sent directly to the OB Van- without any delay! The Robycam’s dolly had an integrated DC power which allowed for up to 8hours of power on a full load. The system was a perfect fit for the coverage application that benefited viewers fascinating visual perspectives of the event!

About Robycam:

maxresdefaultRobycam is a 3D camera system consisting of two elements. Gyro-stabilized camera heads, which make 1-2D or 3D camera movements possible, are used with cable camera systems, cranes, sleighs or rails. Together with a powerful remote control, the systems produce spectacular images. The RobyHeads are gyro-stabilized, carbon-fibre camera heads that impress with low weight and maximum stability under the toughest production environments. Due to the perfect adjustment of the camera heads with the cameras and optics used, camera movements in 360 ° are possible. RobyHeads can be operated with all commercially available 2/3 box cameras and integrated into 1-2D and 3D motion-controlled Robycam systems. The remote control provides access to all functions of the cameras and optics as well as to comprehensive functions of the heads, cranes or sleighs. The largest Robycam 3D system is ideally suited for large indoor or outdoor events. It uses four real-time controlled automatic winches and a sophisticated motion control system that allows fast camera movements up to 10 m / s and with millimetre-accuracy in all axes. With its transmission power action radiuses of up to 250m x 250m and more are possible.
