Camera News! #NABSHOW

The 2015 NAB Show is the perfect place for companies to reveal new products and updates.  We have been watching for the latest speculation from camera manufacturers and will keep you up to date as the possibilities roll in.

panasonic-af101-successor-nab-2015Panasonic has scheduled a news conference for  April 13th at the 2015 NAB Show.  They are expected to announce a new MFT camcorder in conjunction with that conference.  The camera, rumored to be an upgrade to the Panasonic AF101, will feature a newly designed 18-megapixel image sensor and will be able to capture 4K video.  The camera will have a price tag between $3,000 and $4,000.   Additional specifications for the AG-AF 4K MFT camera include 16+ stops of dynamic range, improved skin tones, improved lowlight capabilities, improved highlight rendition and usable ISO up to 12,800. The image sensor is Micro Four Thirds.

canoneosc300In other camcorder news, Canon is expected to announce the C300 Mark II Cinema EOS camcorder before the 2015 NAB Show.  This 4K camera will be a major upgrade over its predecessor (EOS C300).  Canon has set color rendition as a top priority for this camera.  While no pricing is available at this time, it is rumored that it will be priced to compete with Sony’s FS7.  Canon is also expected to announce an EOS C500 Mark II at some point in the future.

Canon is also rumored to announce the 5D EOS Mark IV and it may come with 4K video capture.  Some sources are saying the 2015 NAB Show may be too early for the Mark IV announcement.  Other possible announcement include high megapixel cameras EOS 1DX Mark II and the EOS 3D.

Red will unveil WEAPON, a camera body upgrade for DRAGON.  The upgrade is expected to be available for the EPIC DRAGON® and SCARLET DRAGON® although there will likely be pricing differences in the upgrade.  In a not-so-subtle Facebook post, Jarred Land included a photo of a camera with a 1TB Mini-Mag and the comment “ProRes.”

Sony fans are hoping for the release of a new A7000 with 4K video, sensor stabilization and a shutter speed of up to 1/8000.  There is talk of multiple new Sony lenses, including zooms, telephotos and fast primes.  Sony’s news conference is scheduled for April 12th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Mirage Grand Ballroom.  If you can’t make it in person, watch the live stream here.

Nikon may have the D400 up its sleeve, to replace the D300S. The D400 would be a high end APS-C sensor-equipped DSLR featuring Nikon’s Expeed 4 image processor.  Speculation also includes the release of multiple Nikon and NIKKOR lenses.
