Capella Systems integrates NexGuard for light speed watermarked transcoding

NexGuard, a Kudelski company and the leading provider of forensic watermarking technology and solutions, and Capella Systems, the leading provider of next generation enterprise level universal transcoding software that are smart and innovative, today announced the integration of NexGuard forensic watermarking with Capella’s Cambria FTC to protect the transcoding of any file in record time.

The NexGuard audio and video forensic watermarking Software Development Kit (SDK) has been integrated into Cambria FTC, to watermark and transcode various file formats much faster than real time. The joint solution also supports resolutions up to Ultra HD, High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 8K. Compatible with on-premise and cloud workflows, the joint solution can be easily integrated with other applications as a plug-in filter.

Harrie Tholen, Managing Director at NexGuard, explained: “Global day-and-date distribution results in more pressure on bandwidth and operational staff as content owners and studios send their files to more third parties and in a growing number of versions for preparation and distribution. To simplify the process without compromising on picture quality, using faster than real-time transcoding is no longer nice to have – it’s a necessity. By integrating our forensic watermarking solution within Cambria FTC, we provide robust and imperceptible watermarking that enables the tracking of the source of illegal redistribution of content, regardless of format.”

Cambria FTC is a transcoder performing high-quality, multi-frame, motion-adaptive de-interlacing. Its content-adaptive frame conversion minimizes stuttering, and an automatic scaling algorithm helps produce optimal visual quality. It supports ProRes, XDCAM, H.264, MPEG-2, DNxHD, HEVC and is 8K, 12-bit, and HDR ready; this enables it to automatically set target settings based on properties of the source file, such as automatically preserving the resolution, frame rate, interlacing, and aspect ratio of the original. In addition, it automatically adjusts the bitrate ladder used for DASH, HLS, or Smooth Streaming based on the encoding complexity of the source video. From scriptable workflows to batch transcoding jobs and multi-file workflows, the features of Cambria FTC also reduce the bitrate needed to transcode any file during the production phase or for final distribution.

“Cambria FTC has been designed to provide content owners, pay-TV and OTT/VoD service providers with a simple, secure solution that can be inserted within their existing infrastructure,“ said Ikuyo Yamada, CEO at Capella Systems. “Adding NexGuard forensic watermarking enables us to offer best in class content protection through the whole content lifecycle while ensuring that it can be easily integrated within today’s workflows to secure revenues.”

Forensic watermarking is the process by which a unique, invisible serial number can be added to video or audio content. The watermark is designed to remain with the content, regardless of how it might be transcoded, resized, downscaled or otherwise altered for distribution.
