News 12 Long Island is looking for a bright and creative -News Junkie- to be our next News Production Assistant. While this is an entry level position, we are looking for candidates with exposure and experience in broadcast television news writing, preferably with a journalism degree. To assist producers and associate producers with production of all News 12 services. Print and collate scripts, perform research and retrieve scripts and file video, operate teleprompter, log tapes, help gather elements for all News 12 services as well as maintain familiarity with local, national and international current events, important issues and newsmakers. Responsible for monitoring News 12 content and maintaining familiarity on a continuing basis as well as take part in editorial process and propose stories to be covered. Write stories when assigned, use software necessary to distribute information across all News 12 services, act as Associate Producer as necessary and represent News 12 in a courteous and professional manner.
Qualifications The ideal candidate needs a background in journalism with general knowledge and interest in local, national and world news. Must have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Must have the ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays. Bachelors degree or equivalent experience preferred, minimum 60 College credits required. For internal candidates applying for other opportunities within the organization, the minimum educational requirement for college is strongly preferred but not required depending on relevant Cablevision work experience.
