Television Veteran to be Honored at Awards Dinner Gala on October 20th
Diane Masciale, General Manager of WLIW21 and Executive Producer of local productions at WNET, parent company of WLIW21 and THIRTEEN, and operator of NJTV, has been named one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business” in 2016 by Long Island Business News. Presented by Long Island’s premier business publication for more than 60 years, the award recognizes leading female professionals in the business, education, government, and nonprofit fields for their business acumen, mentoring, and community involvement. Honorees are selected by a judging committee and will be inducted at a special awards dinner gala, which is attended annually by hundreds of LI business leaders. This year’s event is scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET, at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, NY.
“I’m deeply honored to be recognized along with the other distinguished nominees,” said Masciale. “As a Long Island native and veteran producer, I am always looking for innovative ways to serve the diverse Long Island community with engaging public television programming and dynamic multi-platform content that entertains, inspires, and informs through stunning visuals and compelling storytelling.”
Masciale is responsible for day-to-day operations of WLIW21, the country’s fourth most-watched PBS station. As Executive Producer, she also oversees local productions for all three stations including the Emmy Award-winning, Treasures of New York, an original series showcasing New York’s cultural icons and MetroFocus, a daily television and multi-platform news magazine. Masciale also is Host and Executive Producer of WLIW Arts Beat showcasing local arts as well as arts and culture from the region and across the country. She has launched the Major Market Group Content Sharing System, which is delivering high-quality arts programming to more than 35 PBS stations across the country, and SciTech Now, a weekly science and technology news magazine hosted by Hari Sreenivasan as well as 66th & Broadway, an entertainment series, The ChatterBox, a YouTube digital series, and NJ Today Summer Edition, a nightly news program for NJTV. Public television presentations produced under her stewardship include the award winning, Stargate Theatre: A Defining Act, as well as Italian Americans of NY & NJ, Latino Americans of NY & NJ, Superstorm Sandy: A Live Town Hall and What Next After Newtown.
Masciale is a veteran news executive who has served as Executive Editor of ABC’s Good Morning America and Executive Producer in the ABC Long Form Unit. Previously, she was Acting Executive Producer and Senior Broadcast Producer at NBC’s Today Show, as well as Senior Broadcast Producer at Dateline NBC.
A three-time National Emmy Award-winner, Masciale has achieved some of the highest recognition throughout her media career—including the Edward R. Murrow Award, American Women in Radio & TV Gracie Award, Clarion Award, National Headliner Award, Sigma Delta Chi Award, Cine Gold Eagle, Cindy Awards, National Press Club Award, National Association of Consumer Advocates Award, Halo Award for Best Cause Marketing, Folio Awards, Long Island Press Club Awards and New York State Broadcaster Awards. Masciale is on the roster of Outstanding Young Women in America, in addition to this new distinction as one of Long Island Business News’ Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business in 2016. She also has completed the rigorous Six Sigma Certification business leadership program.
Masciale is on the advisory boards of Long Island Arts Alliance, LIU Post School of Visual Arts, Communications and Digital Technologies, and PBS Stories of Service Council, and is a member of the PBS Executive Leadership Network.
