NBC News Digital is seeking an editor to drive our coverage of NBC Out. This person will “own” the section and be responsible for delivering impactful, engaging, discussible and shareable content.
Leadership chops are key, as is the ability – preferably from experience doing it – to successfully navigate a large and oftentimes complicated organization.
The role will report to the Executive Editor of NBC News Digital. This is a staff with end date assignment, ending in June 2017.
Responsibilities include”Setting the editorial agenda for coverage, including assigning stories and working with the video and graphics desks to shape their output
Working with a range of journalistic talent from both digital and TV to produce journalism that sets us apart
Editing stories and being the “last pair of eyes” to see everything that appears on our platforms, or empowering the right people to be that set of eyes in your stead
Building and managing a network of freelancers and contributors to supplement in-house talent
Closely coordinate with colleagues in the larger NBC News newsgathering teams to align reporting and maximize both depth and breadth of coverage.
Cultivating a social media presence and general audience awareness of the site to drive traffic and audience loyalty
Cultivating editorial relationships with content partners, within and outside the NBC News
Managing rights of licensed content and ensure published content meets rights and contractual agreements.
Qualifications/Requirements8 + years experience in journalism
1+ years in an editorial leadership capacity, ideally within a commercial environment.
Exceptional leadership skills and able to act as ‘player/coach’ with the team. A collaborator who can work easily across a large organization
Experience producing creative and innovative quality video. Ideally has worked within or around a TV news organization.
Deep understanding of the changing digital media landscape in all its forms. Passionate and curious about “what’s next” in digital and proactively pushes the organization to anticipate and meet news digital consumers’ needs.
Be able to manage a budget and represent the needs of the team internally
Proven ability to partner with product, technology and sales to deliver compelling and competitive digital products
