FotoKem Joins With HBCU Next in Supporting Underrepresented Filmmakers

FotoKem has announced its support of the 2024 HBCU Next summer session, a fellowship program for under-represented storytellers from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). HBCU Next was founded by playwright, author and filmmaker David E. Talbert. For eight weeks, two talented HBCU Next filmmakers will work closely with FotoKem colorists, technicians, and film laboratory experts at FotoKem’s main campus in Burbank, learning post-production and film finishing from some of the world’s most creative and innovative artists. This immersive, hands-on program is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that provides an in-depth education on post-production processes, from pre-production through delivery, and FotoKem is honored to be a part of David E. Talbert’s phenomenal mission to support filmmakers from HBCUs nationwide.

“For over a decade, FotoKem has opened their home and hearts to my films,” said Talbert. “I’m excited to now partner with FotoKem to extend this unprecedented opportunity to the next generation of HBCU filmmakers.”

FotoKem Chief Operating Officer Tom Vice commented, “We have been fortunate enough to collaborate with David on three of his films, (Almost Christmas, El Camino Christmas and Jingle Jangle).  With each experience we see how he continues to elevate the art of motion picture directing. So, when we heard that he had started the HBCU Next program we offered to help by hosting two aspiring filmmakers from HBCU campuses to participate in our summer internship program. We hope that our support enhances the program in a small way and offers opportunities to students that may not have the access that they should have.”

The internships begin June 17th, 2024.
