Blackmagic Design announced today that IBC Iwate Broadcasting Co., Ltd. is using DaVinci Resolve Studio for post production of their programs, along with DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor panels for editing and DaVinci Resolve Micro Panels for color correction. These are used in conjunction with IBC Iwate Broadcasting’s large amount of Blackmagic Design broadcast products, including various ATEM live production switchers as part of the company’s sports streaming productions.
IBC Iwate conducts television broadcasting and AM radio business reporting targeting Iwate Prefecture in Japan. The company has been early adopters of DaVinci Resolve Studio, utilizing it for editing infotainment programs, documentaries, sports programs and more.
“We started using DaVinci Resolve around version 12.5. It was more stable compared to other software. Plus, it was very affordable,” said Katsushi Tsunokake of the production department.
In the TV Production Department of IBC Iwate, DaVinci Resolve Studio is installed on five Mac systems, each equipped with DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor. One of them also has a DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel for color correction. “Initially, we mostly used the Edit page, but now we use various pages. With frequent software updates, the functionalities usable for our work have increased,” added Tsunokake.
In addition to DaVinci Resolve, the company also uses ATEM Television Studio Pro HD and ATEM SDI Pro ISO live production switchers, ATEM Camera Converters, ATEM Talkback Converters, Web Presenter HD streaming device, HyperDeck Studio HD Mini, HyperDeck Studio, and DeckLink and Ultra Studio capture and playback devices.
Tsunokake explained, “Our department handles production, and directors operate equipment for shooting and editing. For example, for broadcasting golf programs, where long distance cable connections are required, we use Camera Converter and ATEM Talkback Converter to lay cables via fiber optics. With these devices, we can also view return video and have talkback functions, enabling us to produce content ourselves even for jobs where the budget is limited and technical staff cannot stay onsite all the time.”
Tsunokake continued, “In sports programs, we use DaVinci Resolve to produce ‘straight out of camera’ footage or create digest videos. By designating the HyperDeck recording destination to storage and importing the recorded data into DaVinci Resolve as growing media, we can edit while capturing new footage simultaneously without the need for dedicated equipment or additional option costs.”
In conclusion, Tsunokake said: “DaVinci Resolve is constantly updated, and it’s amazing how more and more features that we want are being added. It’s very robust and can be used for various scale jobs. It’s a software with much higher versatility than I initially expected.”
