Intertrust Announces ExpressPlay UHD at 2015 #NABShow

ExpressPlay UHD DRM system debuts at NAB, Booth N2019 on 4K TVs from China’s Xiaomi and LeTV

Intertrust Technologies Corporation, the inventor of Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology, today announced the launch of ExpressPlay UHD, a hardware-based extension to its globally adopted ExpressPlay cloud DRM platform. ExpressPlay UHD technology is based on the Marlin DRM open standard, which offers a highly scalable and adaptive DRM engine, web services, and a licensing framework that is supported by major content providers.

“We created ExpressPlay UHD in response to the growing number of 4K/UHD TVs,” said Gilles Boccon-Gibod, SVP and Chief Architect at Intertrust. “These screens are dark without world-class, high definition content, which requires the most robust protection technology available. ExpressPlay UHD ensures that content providers, service providers, and manufacturers can deliver content securely to these brilliant devices for a thrilling consumer experience.”

2015 is a bellwether year for 4K/UHD TVs. Consumer response to these devices has been outstanding, especially in growing markets such as China, where many manufacturers are deploying them aggressively. ExpressPlay UHD unites sophisticated software and hardware to provide flexible, easy-to-integrate technology that is totally transparent to the end user. To deliver this technology and facilitate the licensing of high-value content by service providers, Intertrust worked with chipset and hardware security partners to garner content industry support.

ExpressPlay UHD is launching globally, but Intertrust anticipates major early adoption in the Chinese market where ExpressPlay is already the market leader for Internet video.  Intertrust’s many partners in the Chinese market include all major Internet TV providers, and several device makers.

“China is a high growth market for Internet-connected consumer devices,” said Kenny Huang, Intertrust’s Managing Director for Greater China. “Chinese consumers have an insatiable appetite for new devices and high-value content, and we are proud to help deliver premium video to leading TVs from companies like Xiaomi and LeTV.”
