If the slick design and the body weight of under 6lbs doesn’t make you turn your head, then certainly, the dynamic range of 14+ stops of wide latitude will! Panasonic is featuring the VariCam LT at NAB 2016 and it will certainly draw a nice crowd. The VariCam LT is equipped with the super 35mm single chip MOS sensor, YES, the same senor design for the well received VariCam 35. The camera is superb in providing low-noise images without any compromise to the picture quality. The ISO settings of 800 and 5000 are so closely identical that in order to achieve such perfection two dedicated analog circuits were implemented to every pixel of the imager. So even at ISO 5000 realistic capture is achievable making the product more realistic!
Of course, the VariCam LT is equipped with V-log gamma which allows post production color grading adjustments, as well as, the new V-LOOK feature which is a setting for creating cinematic images without color grading. The gamma curve is able to maintain a greater tonal range within the Rec 709 color space making the V-709 gamma setting tone suitable for viewing on standard monitors.
The 4K workflow partners such as Adobe, Avid, FilmLight, and Rohde & Schwarz (just to name a few) are committed to support VariCam 4K workflows, including AVC-Intra 4K, V-RAW, and/or in-camera color grading. Also, the VariCam LT provides internal down conversion to Full HD via two 3G HD SDI outputs and one VF output with shooting in 4K so your workflow during production is obtainable without compromising setup. Using the AVC Intra 4K codec the VariCam LT can record 4K (4096 x 2160) or UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. For 2K recording, the VariCam LT supports AVC-Intra 2K444/2K422/2K-LT. For HD recording, the VariCam LT supports AVC-Intra 444/422/100/LT and Apple ProRes 4444/HQ. Using the 256 GByte expressP2 card, the camera can record approximately 90 minutes of 23.98p 4K video with AVC-Intra 4K422.
