Creamsource has unveiled CreamOS 2.0, the latest firmware upgrade for its Vortex series of cinema lighting fixtures. The new release introduces several features designed to enhance user experience and creative capabilities in film and television production.

New Features Expand Creative Control

Among the notable additions are RDM support over Wired DMX and CRMX, which allows lighting artists to configure Vortex fixtures directly from a console without physically accessing them. This feature streamlines setup processes and reduces downtime.

CreamOS 2.0 also includes Custom White Point functionality for 'CCT Crossfade HSI' and 'CCT Crossfade RGBW' color modes, enabling users to define their own white point settings between 2200K and 15000K with adjustable green/magenta tints. This feature aids in matching lighting sources and white balancing video content from external media servers.

Improved Usability and Efficiency

The firmware update introduces DMX User Presets, allowing users to save and recall up to four different DMX configurations with a few button presses. Additionally, Save/Restore Settings and User Presets to USB Drive features enable easy cloning of configurations and sharing of colors and effects between fixtures.

HTP merging of up to four incoming sACN sources is another notable feature, particularly useful for large productions involving multiple media servers and lighting consoles. This function allows data from different sources to be merged using HTP (Highest Takes Precedence).

Vortex Series Fixture Integration

CreamOS 2.0 maintains the modern UI of the Vortex4 and Vortex8 fixtures, which are known for their ease of use and pre-programmed effects, color gels, multi-zone control, and FrameSync technology. These features collectively streamline the lighting experience and facilitate expanded configurations tailored to artistic visions.

Users can explore the full list of updates and improvements on Creamsource's website. At NAB 2022, attendees can visit Creamsource's booth for demonstrations of the new firmware and Vortex series fixtures.
