Position: Photography & Production Manager

Location: Madison Heights MI US

Moosejaw is the most fun outdoor retailer ever. We sell the finest gear and outerwear through Moosejaw.com, our print catalog, and our 11 retail shops in Michigan, Illinois, Colorado and Missouri. At Moosejaw, our goal is to make shopping as much fun as climbing in the Himalayas. Not that climbing in the freezing cold weather is fun, but you know what we mean.

We’re seeking a Photography & Production Manager to join the Marketing Team based in Madison Heights, Michigan. Essentially, the job entails leading and executing photography, videography, and production projects. And other stuff like leadership and managing people- you know, like manager stuff. That’s how we got the job title. We were trying to think of something more creative. Like Urban Planner of Production in a Photography Appreciative Environment. Or I Didn’t Know Soap Operas Were a Real Thing Until I Met Susan Lucci on a Cruise Ship but someone forgot their thinking cap at home today.

The Photography & Production Manager is responsible for supporting the marketing team in leading photo shoots (both in studio and in the field) and video shoots in addition to editing and publishing photos/videos for use in promotions/events, co-op, Madness events, social channels, and for site improvements. Candidates must have significant experience with digital photography, product photography, videography, studio lighting, image sizing, resolution and formatting. Having led a photo shoot in the field is strongly preferred but not required. You must have a strong affinity for the Moosejaw brand, Love the Madness and embrace the Moosejaw culture.

Responsibilities Include:
Producing quality product photographs & video as needed for the Web Content team

Working with the Web Content team to format and upload current product imagery from vendors and tweak product images

Making sure all co-op required photos are shot, edited, and published in required timeframe

Leading and planning all photo shoots (permits, locations, assignments on job)

Acting as the lead project manager for photo projects

Build and refine an efficient process for collecting, processing, and publishing photo requests from variety of teams across the company.

Working as the lead photographer/shoot manager on all projects

Digitally manipulating images using industry standard photo editing software

Communicating with the Buying team in cooperation with vendor product involved in photo shoots

Overseeing organization and management of photo shoot sample requests

Leading location and studio photo shoots

Overseeing several customer-facing email accounts (i.e. Pictureman, Jack, etc)

Collaborating with the creative team on concept shoots and other areas as needed

Overseeing our Flickr account

Assisting with Instagram pictures and social media projects as needed

Helping document Madness and culture at Moosejaw, as well as at local events, with quality photography

Supervising the photo team to get the most and best, setting and communicating guiding goals, measuring accomplishments, delegating and developing, and coaching for today and tomorrow

Things we’d like you to bring to the table:
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with digital photography, product photography, studio lighting, image sizing, resolution and formatting is required. Experience photographing models is preferred.

A minimum of 1-3 years of experience managing and motivating a team. Think dynamic leader and mentor who has a deep passion for the Moosejaw brand and a demonstrated ability to translate this into photographs.

Experience managing people and projects is required

Strongly honed computer skills and proficiency with Adobe Photoshop is required

Knowledge of video and other forms of digital media is strongly preferred

Knowledge of outdoor activities & gear is strongly preferred, but not required

Must be highly creative and possess an artistic and design sensibility

Must be extremely self-motivated and able to exhibit out-of-the-box thinking to formulate new and creative ways of doing things, challenge assumptions, be comfortable with ambiguity, and have a future-oriented focus

Must exhibit a high degree of flexibility, maintain a solution-driven focus in challenging situations, adapt quickly to changing business requirements and be able to thrive amidst chaos

Must have strong project management skills with the ability to foster a sense of urgency, be aggressive in pushing for deadlines and communicating issues, identify and overcome obstacles, as well as proactive in providing status updates on projects

Must have a strong affinity for the Moosejaw brand, Love the Madness and embrace the Moosejaw culture. You knew this one was coming.

Things we’ll bring to the table:
Great 401 (k) plan and benefits package. Sorry I had to write that even though it’s boring.

Casual dress code. Very casual. Like jeans, t-shirts and sneakers. I used the word sneakers instead of gym shoes because I like it better. Just in case you were wondering.

Coworkers who will laugh at your jokes. Even if they’re just being polite.

Cubicle-free work environment. However, you are encouraged to build a fort around you using couch cushions, pillows and blankets from your mom’s house.

Rock-paper-scissors contests, ping pong, field days and good music. Oh and a karaoke initiation. No joke.

Amazing discounts on outdoor apparel, gear and Moosejaw products
