Profuz Digital reflects on IBC2025 Success – Innovating Broadcast and Localization

Profuz Digital’s Profuz LAPIS and SubtitleNEXT at the forefront of Broadcast and Localization Innovation

9 October 2025, Sofia, Bulgaria –  European technology developer Profuz Digital reflects on another successful IBC Show in Amsterdam from 12 – 15 September after showcasing the latest version of subtitling platform SubtitleNEXT and new capabilities in the AI-enabled Profuz LAPIS digital media asset management system.

IBC2025 has been reported as one of the largest annual gatherings of the media and entertainment industry, with close to 44,000 attendees from over 170 countries, with 1,300 exhibitors showcasing innovations and cutting-edge technology.

Kamen Ferdinandov, CTO and developer behind Profuz LAPIS and SubtitleNEXT

“It was evident how “AI” has become ubiquitous with virtually everyone claiming AI capabilities. AI was a dominant theme at the show, with focus on generative and agentic AI. We felt it was even more important to emphasise to people who came to see us at the show what the real practical aspects and benefits AI brings for media and localization workflows specifically.” Kamen Ferdinandov, CTO at Profuz Digital remarked, “Our Profuz LAPIS system delivers smooth cost-efficient AI processing integration with intelligent task-management distribution across assigned engines, making broadcasters’ lives easier. For broadcasters, we emphasised that AI is being applied in metadata enrichment, transcription and voice-over, content categorisation and workflow automation.”

“One of the key highlights of IBC was Agentic AI, especially in production where DAM/MAM users can search for media content without manually entering metadata. It was vital that people understood that Profuz LAPIS delivers a revolutionary solution to the industry, loaded with every tool and feature required to manage multiple TV channels. LAPIS is designed to organize media assets that include movies, documentaries, series, clips, and promotions for categorization, advanced searching, filtering, meta data tagging and sorting, by effortlessly providing centralized, secure, and reliable efficiency in one powerful elegant solution, streamlining workflows, and boosting productivity.”

Organisations using Profuz LAPIS include the likes of such as Canal+ France, Council of Europe, Bulgarian National Radio and others. Profuz LAPIS is more than just another digital media asset management system that integrates AI—it is a sophisticated platform that orchestrates AI-powered tasks. Instead of simply running different AI engines independently, LAPIS intelligently choreographs an organisation’s entire workflow by distributing and coordinating tasks across multiple AI processing engines.

New features in Profuz LAPIS for IBC2025  included “Multi-AI Processing Integration” managing seamless connection with various AI engines for transcription, translation, object detection, face recognition and more. The new “Smart Task Distribution” selects the most suitable engine based on metrics such as language, category, and genre. It eradicates the need to rely on one single AI engine, and instead, LAPIS now analyses the nature of each task, before assigning it to the most suitable available engine. Other new features and capabilities in LAPIS showcased at IBC included – subtitle translation with intelligent time slot management; voice synthesis obtained from timed texts; speaker identification within speech-to-text; multiple optional servers for AI and media processing such as transcription, translation, object detection, face recognition, text extraction, conversion, transcoding and others, that include intelligent distribution of tasks. Other functionalities include image, audio and text file editors, the volume meter and slow motion control tools in the media player, and a brand new timeline media editor plus much more.

SubtitleNEXT is an affordable timed-text software platform that is intuitive and manages subtitles and audio description.  The latest version 5.16 was unveiled at IBC, packed with an extensive host of stunning new features that include “Batch translation” of subtitle files, the new text splitting mechanism enabling the correct translation of subtitles into all languages, new Volume Meter, improved .890 format handling, TTML based format support and profiles such as SMPTE-TT, IMSC 1/1.2, EBU-TT and others, as well as REST API for integration with other platforms.

Other significant upgrades for broadcasters shown at IBC2025 included SubtitleNEXT’s support for SDI and NDI-based workflows. Graphical subtitles can be transmitted as fill and key, burnt over pass-through video with hardware or software keying. Teletext (OP-47) or closed caption subtitles can be inserted in the pass-through video signal.

SubtitleNEXT is being used at Proximus Media House

SubtitleNEXT is being embraced by Proximus Media House, London’s Wilco Media, Euro Media Group (EMG), Polsat, Bulgarian National Television, IT Pros Italy, Digitalmeister, Leinhäuser Language Services,  University of Warsaw, Ghent and KU Leuven University, and others.

Ivanka Vassileva, CEO of Profuz Digital said, “Following the phenomenal success we had at IBC2024, we were delighted to experience an increase in number of visitors to our stand this IBC Show, even exceeding attendance figures from the previous year. The demand for product demonstrations was a positive indication of how our technology is valued and drawing interest.”

Adding further, Ivanka noted, “There was a dynamic atmosphere on the Profuz Digital stand, and we could sense definite confidence fully returning to the industry, coupled with creative energy – signs that the M&E market is well and thriving and bounced back stronger than ever from a difficult period from 5 years ago recovering from the global pandemic and other economic factors. We continue to support the industry with technology they can rely on, helping broadcasters remain at the top of their game, to see them through the good and tougher times and challenges that businesses face, by  providing them with flexible, efficient and dependable platforms to excel with.”
