Quickplay Partners with AccuWeather Network to Enable Broadcast Content Origination and Distribution, Providing New 24/7 All-Weather, All the Time Programming Solution
Quickplay, the global expert in powering premium video to any device, today announced a managed service that enables content programmers to cost-effectively roll-out and distribute high-quality broadcast channels to multichannel video programming distributors (MVPD’s) regionally, nationally, and internationally. In addition, Quickplay’s market leading managed video platform service is now available to content programmers to launch over the top (OTT) services to any device and over any network.
Using Quickplay’s Managed Broadcast Operations Service, Quickplay is partnering with AccuWeather – the world’s largest and fastest growing weather company – to deliver 24/7 network programming through the new AccuWeather Network. The AccuWeather Network launched in March with Verizon FiOS as its first carrier to over five million homes. The new linear television service provides broadcast distribution of AccuWeather alerts, information, and updates with Superior Accuracy™ across geographies and platforms.
The partnership joins AccuWeather with Quickplay to deliver a reliable, high quality 24-hour linear playout chain to meet consumer demand, ingesting weather data, video, and graphics into Quickplay’s advanced head-end facility, and providing network, media, and IT operations support. Quickplay’s service enables enhanced playout capabilities, integrating ad triggers, and real-time weather updates for each city broadcast into an all-weather L-Bar on AccuWeather Network. The combination of broadcast playout with custom, local weather updates, enables AccuWeather to deliver the smarter choice in weather programming, utilizing Quickplay’s trusted platform and service expertise.
These new managed services and blue-chip content programmer clients add to Quickplay’s unprecedented scale and growth. In its decade of operation, Quickplay has set several industry benchmarks. It has become the world’s largest distributor of linear OTT TV, distributing 700 channels, securing content connections to 250 premium content programmers covering Hollywood to Bollywood, and servicing an addressable market of over 700 million subscribers worldwide. Quickplay powers premium video to the largest MVPD’s including AT&T, Bell, TELUS, Verizon and most recently, HOOQ – a joint venture between Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers and the Singtel Group.
“The strategic partnership with Quickplay is one of the ingredients that drives the unique weather “channel” that the AccuWeather Network delivers. Viewers get all weather, all the time for their local area. This is like no other weather information experience on television. People see it as relevant, real, and right. The audience is amazed when they look at the network. It is truly designed in the 21st century for people living in the 21st century,” stated AccuWeather CEO Barry Lee Myers. “The experience feels very much like a digital weather app you might see on your tablet and more. It is a new, vibrant concept in this digital age. It is television weather made over.”
“We have seen long standing inherent inefficiencies in the distribution of premium video,” said Wayne Purboo, CEO and co-founder of Quickplay. “As the market intensifies, providers are looking to offer compelling video experiences on any device and over any network with significantly greater efficiency. These new services add to our MVPD managed services and leverage common assets to bring disruptive economics that both MVPD’s and premium content programmers can benefit from. We are thrilled to be working with the AccuWeather to deliver this innovative and valuable channel to viewers.”
Quickplay will be exhibiting at NAB Show in Las Vegas from April 13-16, in the South Hall, booth SU9505. The company will be demonstrating these new services, as well as Next Generation Experience Solution and the latest capabilities in LTE Broadcast and Android TV.
