Streaming with the Avenir Mini 2 by Streambox

The Avenir Mini 2 is an ultra mobile streaming appliance encoder by Streambox, and it is targeting several markets such as Live Newsgathering, Streaming to the Web and mobile devices, Emergency response, and Satellite video transport to name just a few. The Avenir Mini 2’s key features includes up to 4x embedded 3G/4G/LTE modems / 1x embedded USB modem / 1x Gigabit Ethernet & 1x WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n) , HD/SD encoding bit rate of 64Kbps to 35Mbps, and End-to-End latency ranging from 1.5 to 2 seconds, makes this unit a great addition to your media distribution arsenal!

Streambox’s smallest hardware-based mobile encoding device at 5.5″W x 7.9″D x 2.3″H (14cm W x 20cm D x 6cm H) and weighing a mere 3.6lbs (1.6kg), the Avenir Mini 2 can be camera mounted via the battery mount, or can be carried in the custom designed pouch on your belt loop. The video input to the Avenir Mini 2 is HD-SDI and HDMI-full size and the audio input is embedded SDI Audio and HDMI audio. The capability to power over an hour of streaming HD on a single IDX battery is quite impressive! But rest assure, the unit has an AC adapter when in controlled environments where 100-240V 50/60Hz is available. The user interface features a 2.4″ touch screen LCD window or controlled through Web, iPhone, iPad, or Android interface application. End user selectable: Title, Reporter, Group, and Location metadata information is standard along with the Solid State Drive (SSD) 64GB drive! Recording formats include: HD: 1080/23.98PsF, 1080i/59.94, 1080i/50, 720p/59.94, 720p/50 and SD: (NTSC): 525i/59.94, (PAL): 576i/50. Video encoding options are: HD: 1920, 1440, 1280, 960×1080, 1280, 960, 800, 640×720, 1920×540 and SD: 720, 528, 480, 352×480, 320×240, 720, 528, 480, 352×576, 320×288, 720×240, 720×288. Lastly, the Audio encoding options are: AAC, CELP, GSM 1/2/4/8 channels. Let’s not forget to mention the the compression specification is Streambox ACT-L3 Advanced Profile, along with the store and forward detail which supports S&F Server, Live Server, Enterprise Server or Decoder SFR.

The Avenir Mini 2 also provides for a High gain antenna array for 3G/4G/LTE, Dual-WiFi Antenna and paired with the Signal Extender 2.0: A modular device which is the size of soda can and can bond three 3G/4G modems with the ability to “daisy-chain” multiple signal extenders! And, for all you Panasonic camera users out there, the Avenir Mini 2 is compatible with Panasonic camera’s interfaces. Users can control Avenir from a Panasonic camera and follow Avenir’s performance and status. The ability to start and stop, check bitrate, resolution, and streaming status can all be seen from the viewfinder on Panasonic cameras!
