Puerto Rico’s Leading Television Station and Creator of Locally Produced Content Brings in Change Management Expert for Major Operations Overhaul

New York, NY—April 7, 2016—Positive Flux, the leading provider of change management planning and execution services for media companies, today announced that it has guided client WAPA, the top broadcaster based in Puerto Rico, through a comprehensive project to completely reinvent the station’s in-house production operations. The project introduces modern, tapeless workflows and brings enhanced efficiency and productivity to all aspects of production at WAPA including its News, Entertainment Production, Promotions, Programming, Interactive and Social Media segments.

These workflow changes are significant for a broadcaster which is unique for the remarkable amount of high quality programming it produces in house. Nearly sixty-five percent of content distributed by the station across its over the air, local and U.S.-distributed cable channels, and DBS agreements is produced in WAPA’s Guaynabo facilities.

WAPA president Joe Ramos said, “A transition of this scale that touches every aspect of WAPA production requires dedicated outside expertise. Of course Positive Flux brings that in abundance. Positive Flux provided us with invaluable operational, financial, and technical know-how that made this possible. Most importantly, Positive Flux feels like part of the WAPA family. Their constant attention to the human aspect of such major changes is a fundamental difference that helps ensure that staff up and down the pipeline is confident and enthusiastic about these important changes.”

Positive Flux began its work for WAPA in mid-2014 by helping to develop a capital plan for the transition. From there, Positive Flux became an integral part of the project team at the highest level and provided a range of services through completion of the project in February 2016 that included:
-Capital plan creation and project justification
-Vendor bid documentation, selection and negotiation
-Managed relationship with key technology vendors including Avid, Ross, Bosch/RTS, Telestream, Focusrite and others
-Project management, tracking and timeline creation
-Workflow design to map current operational workflows and define new ones including automated distribution to social media from with production
-Assistance with systems design
-Extensive operations training
-Transition planning
-Project reporting and analysis

Positive Flux CEO Larry Thaler said, “It’s easy to be enthralled by the technology impact of an ambitious, forward-looking project like that being undertaken by WAPA. From the beginning though, we knew that everyone had a role to play. News reporters, producers, engineers, and everyone all the way up through executive management would be impacted by these changes. We are very proud of the outcome of this project, which is both a technical and very human achievement that accelerates WAPA as a media powerhouse for the 21st century.”

The completion of the project sets the stage for future growth and is a cornerstone of WAPA’s long-term strategy. For more information visit
