WWJ 950 Radio Detroit

LANSING (CBS Detroit) The votes are in and WWJ 950 came out on top in the 2013 Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) 2013 Broadcast Excellence Awards.

The awards were based on the cumulative number of points scored during the competition and given to the station with the most points in each radio and television market.

The awards were presented during the annual Broadcast Excellence Awards Program on Wednesday, March 12, at The Lansing Center in downtown Lansing.

WWJ won the big prize, first place in the Commercial Radio Market.

Reporters, producers, writers, editors and on-air personalities won best honors for: breaking news – I-75 accident; commercial – Todd’s Menswear;community involvementinvestigative story – Tale of Two Cities; promos – school closings; newscast– WWJ Afternoons with Jayne Bower and Greg Bowman on April, 18,2013; regularly scheduled weekday broadcast – WWJ Afternoons with Jayne Bower and Greg Bowman; special show broadcast – Medicaid expansion; sports – Ryan Wooley.

Merit awards were given for: breaking news story – Royal Oak house explosion; feature – Horses Heal Hearts; morning show broadcast – WWJ Mornings with Roberta Jasina and Tom Jordan; morning newscast –  Nov. 6, 2013; regularly scheduled weekend broadcastspecial show broadcast – Detroit in Crisis; sports – Tony Ortiz. won the merit award for new media.

The Broadcast Excellence Awards Program is one of the largest state awards programs in the nation.
