Sometimes life doesn’t go the way we envisioned. So, what do we do next? Find out in ‘Cole Soul’, a new film by Steve Weiss. The story of singer/songwriter Brad Cole; for him, the road less traveled made all the difference. Premieres July 11, 2016 at Zacuto.com.
Brad Cole has been a fixture of the music scene in Chicago, Nashville, and New York City for many years. His journey is one we can all relate to as artists and individuals. Eventually we all must walk the line between being true to the music inside ourselves and making a living to support our families. Filmmaker, musician, writer, photographer, the decision to follow our dreams is an active choice. Cole’s story is a testament to taking the road less traveled, no matter the odds.
“I’m wandering through the desert of life going from one oasis of inspiration to the next. And as much as I think I am on a path, it’s the wandering, it’s the oasis, its the people and my addiction to music that has allowed inspiration to find me, and then let me spin it back to the universe.” – Brad Cole[wpdevart_youtube width=”640″ height=”385″ autoplay=”0″ theme=”dark” loop_video=”0″ enable_fullscreen=”1″ show_related=”1″ show_popup=”0″ thumb_popup_width=”213″ thumb_popup_height=”128″ show_title=”1″ show_youtube_icon=”0″ show_annotations=”1″ show_progress_bar_color=”red” autohide_parameters=”1″ set_initial_volume=”false” initial_volume=”100″ disable_keyboard=”0″]2FG1aJoAY3M[/wpdevart_youtube]
‘Cole Soul’ comes after a two year hiatus for the Zacuto Films team. Director Steve Weiss, Cinematographer Jens Bogehegn, and Editor Chase Kubisak were passionate about Brad’s story and how it often paralleled their lives as filmmakers. So they created a documentary about Brad’s experiences, hopes, dreams, pain, and sorrow to discover how they shaped his music over the years.
This documentary is really a return to their roots for Zacuto owners and Product Designers, Steve Weiss and Jens Bogehegn. ‘Cole Soul’ joins past Zacuto Films series, like ‘Filmfellas’, ‘Critics’, and ‘Light & Shadow’, as both a passion project and a way to share with and give back to the filmmaking community.
“It’s great getting back to creating what I love most – documentaries, and even more fun because this time it centers around music that I really like. It’s a lush background to set a story.” – Steve Weiss, Producer/Director.
Jens Bogehegn, Producer/Cinematographer, used a combination of old school and modern techniques and gear to tell this story. “When shooting documentaries I like an ENG style lens for precise motorized zoom control. You’ve got to know when to zoom in when the emotion builds. I’m using the Canon C300 MII with a Canon ENG Zoom lens 17-120 T2.95. It was nice to get a little bit more shallow DOF if I wanted it. But beyond that, nothing has changed. It’s all about lighting, framing, motivation and movement. It’s about the story.”
