CORVALLIS, OR, August 5, 2025 – OptiTrack today announced that it will demonstrate its new simultaneous markered and markerless motion capture (mocap) solution at SIGGRAPH from August 11-14, 2025, in Vancouver. Made possible through the recently launched Duplex Mode™ in OptiTrack’s Motive tracking software with a Body or Body-Unlimited license tier, the patent-pending solution aligns the high-precision marker-based tracking capabilities of OptiTrack cameras with Captury’s real-time markerless tracking technology driven by machine learning. SIGGRAPH attendees can see it on display at Captury’s booth (West Hall, #306) during exhibit hours.
With OptiTrack cameras and Captury software, animation teams can track characters and props in real time, without special mocap suits, to quickly previz a complex scene, shoot real-time skeletal data, or stream Metahumans into Epic Games’ Unreal Engine for feature films, episodic series, game development, or creating other digital content. The same OptiTrack setup can also be used for traditional markered motion capture when higher precision is needed.
“Props are a big part of the mocap process and OptiTrack’s Duplex Mode with Captury is the only way you can track marker based props and markerless actors all using the same cameras. With this workflow, you’re able to maximize the benefits of markerless mocap and also track anything you can put markers on,” said Anthony Lazzaro, Director of Software at OptiTrack.
Now available, Duplex Mode enables users to leverage the speed and flexibility of markerless performance capture while also precisely tracking props with passive or active markers. The feature supports multiple performers, allows for close interactions, and doesn’t require a high contrast background or special clothing. It works with all current generation OptiTrack X series tracking cameras, including SlimX for active tracking, PrimeX for high resolution and long-range tracking, and the recently launched VersaX line, which is designed for rugged, outdoor environments. By enabling OptiTrack cameras to simultaneously stream object mode (marker data) and MJPEG video data (for markerless), Duplex Mode eliminates the need for multiple setups and any sacrifices to quality. Packaging multiple modalities into a singular workflow, the versatile solution is also easy to operate without mocap expertise.
