Weybridge, Surrey, UK. July 24th 2014
Leading automation, content management and integrated channel specialist, Pebble Beach Systems, today announced a series of innovations for the forthcoming IBC exhibition.
Pebble Web Client
Pebble Beach Systems’ new suite of Web Client tools will be launched at the show; from straightforward monitoring of a single playlist, up to highly granular remote control of multiple Marina automation systems and Dolphin integrated channel devices across geographically dispersed locations.
Created using HTML5 and the latest Web Server technology, these tools are designed to offer high visibility and access to systems of all sizes and architectures on PC or tablet devices using Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer or Firefox browsers. The suite also incorporates a proxy streamer that provides a view of multiple IP streaming outputs within Marina’s web access environment. Proxy streams can be taken from Dolphin integrated channel devices or from other compatible video servers under Marina control, all of which may be located in different places. Each stream is labelled with its location and the current time for ease of identification. The Proxy Streamer also works in single view mode, so that operators can select any IP stream and view its current output in the web client.
‘Lighthouse’ – Monitoring by Exception Dashboard
Designed to alert Marina operators clearly and unambiguously to upcoming problems, Lighthouse is the new dashboard display tool that monitors by exception. It aggregates all lists within the system, displaying a dashboard of the next problem on any list, and enabling early intervention in the case of, for example, validation errors, timing anomalies or missing media alerts. With more channels being controlled by fewer operators, Lighthouse maximises the opportunity for early error detection and safeguards the smooth playout of all channels.
Powerful real time 3D Graphics Creation for Dolphin integrated channel device under Marina control
Pebble Beach Systems is adding a new plug in to deliver affordable real-time advanced 3D branding. This new ClassX graphics inserter is automatically populated from the Marina playlist, even if late breaking changes are made close to air. At IBC, the plug in will be shown generating Now Next Later graphics with video, as well as tickers, bugs and other animated channel branding devices. ClassX is a specialist broadcast graphics provider whose customers include Mediaset, Italian state broadcaster RAI, and MTV, and the company is exhibiting at IBC on stand 8.A74. Pebble Beach Systems will also be demonstrating the latest enhancements to its MARLIN workflow tool for the pre-render of complex graphics using Adobe After Effects which are saved out as a clip, simplifying graphics production workflows and minimising the processing load on playout devices.
European Debut for Marina Lite automation
Optimised for small scale systems of up to 4 channels, Marina Lite is based on the company’s flagship Marina automation platform which currently controls in excess of 300 channels at leading broadcasters and service providers worldwide. This new solution benefits from Marina’s sophisticated and configurable control layer, and each configuration is available with fault tolerant options, such as 1+1 redundancy with fully automatic changeover.
Managing Director Peter Hajittofi explains further:
“Marina Lite delivers world class automation at an affordable price to broadcasters with low channel counts. Based on the proven and resilient 64-bit client-server architecture of our enterprise level Marina automation platform, Marina Lite is capable of controlling traditional legacy products as well as emerging solutions – such as integrated channel technologies – within video, IT and hybrid infrastructures. One of its major strengths is the highly intelligent and flexible playlist, which has the ability to control highly reactive channels with frequent late scheduling changes.”
Marina Lite has drivers for over 20 third party devices, and interfaces to many popular traffic systems. Automatic caching from nearline storage to the playout devices is also provided. Systems can be upgraded from 1 to 4 channels, and if the number of devices to be controlled should grow, or the channel count needs to increase, the entire system can be upgraded to the full Marina enterprise solution.
